Ten boot options for OSX Leopard

Multiple shortcuts exist for the various methods of booting Leopard. These ten boot options range from essential debugging tips such as verbose and safe modes to dual booting options.

To use these boot shortcuts or commands, hold down the bolded keypress while your system is booting up. If it does not work, you probably did not start holding down the key (or key combination) soon enough.

No sound on Macbook Pro (Mandriva 2010)

Hi,

Does anyone have experience with making the soundcard of the MBP (latest version) work in Mandriva 2010?
I tried many things, with and without pulse audio enabled, and came to the conclusion that:

- The built-in microphone is working perfectly

- Pulse Audio volume control show actual output volume when sound is playing, however, there is no sound. Not from the speakers, nor the headphones.

Anyone knows what the problem might be?

Regards

Alex

Macbook 4,1 resume from suspend kernel config 2.6.32

vidmode in the Ubuntu Apple forum, came across a solution for supending from sleep for macBooks 4,1:

I've found that compiling the 2.6.32.4 kernel from source allows my macbook to come back from a suspend to ram, unlike the stock kernels that came with 9.10:
2.6.31-14-generic
2.6.31-15-generic
2.6.31-9-rt

I also tried these kernels from the Kernel PPA:
2.6.32-020632
2.6.33-999-generic

Apple wireless keyboard november 2009

I found a solution to connect the new apple wireless keyboard (the slim one of 2009, november) and thougth that might help someone with the same problem. I'm assuming the keyboard was working fine in OS X (10.6.2) and you have a wired keyboard.

Using Windows XP in VirtualBox on Linux

As a person who uses Linux regularly, often I am asked about my opinions about other operating systems, especially those coming from large companies located in Redmond, Washington. Here's the deal. Operating systems are tools. We use them to do jobs. It is always a good idea to think critically about what tools you are using, and verify if other tools can do the same job in a more efficient or flexible manner.

Sound on MacBook 5,2

Follow the wiki on Ubuntu's forum:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook5-2/Karmic#Sound

I've followed the instructions from the wiki and they only got me as far as to have sound from the builtin speakers, but the output headphone socket doesn't work.
To make the headphones work, make sure to have the followng line at the end of

no network at all (wired and wireless)

I just installed 9.10 on a black 4.1, and I have absolutely no way to connect to the internet.

The first problem I found, which is apparently common among macbook users, is that I don't have any drivers installed and a wireless option doesn't even show up under Network Manager. I even replicated my airport network after clicking new by the (blank) list of wireless networks to no avail.
