iBook G3 desktop repeating i.e. incorrect monitor detection

Hi

I installed Mint on to my iBook (12" G3) from your instructions in the early hours of today. Thanks. I don't know how i managed it, as i'm a complete novice as far as Linus is concerned and in the use of terminal, run / command lines !

Anyway, it seems to have installed fine, apart from the fact that the screen (1024x768) is only being 70% used i.e. at resolution of 800x600 - the rest is black on the right hand side and below the desktop is duplicated. Mint seems to have wrongly detected the monitor as being only 800x600.

Do you have any advice?

Help would be most appreciated.

If you started up, you issue a CTRL-Alt-F1, you will get into a tty. Login with your username and password. Then do the following:

sudo mv ibook1.txt /etc/X11/xorg.conf


Then you either reboot or you do CTRL-Alt-Backspace

I followed your instructions (i hope) but on restart i got an error:

That gave an error as well

So, i decided to have a look at the original 'ibook1.txt' file online and noticed what looked like a 'typo' on it at line 23, see:

I then downloaded it, and changed the 'typo error?' to:

Modes "1024x768"

and then uploaded it to some web space, and then followed your instructions as before, and believe it or not, it worked!

Thanks for pointing that out. I will have a look at my own page, if there is a mistake. I took it from here.
It should now work. I changed it, there was indeed a typo in that file. Great.
