Linux kernel 2.6.38 released

&nbsp;After only 69&nbsp;days of development, Linus Torvalds has <a rel="external" href="http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1113127" target="_blank">released</a> version 2.6.38 of the Linux kernel. Among this kernel's advancements is a process scheduler modification that has become known as the &quot;wonder patch&quot;; this allows desktop environments to respond considerably faster under certain conditions.

openSUSE 11.4 released

<a href="http://www.opensuse.org/en/">&nbsp;openSUSE</a> 11.4, a major new update of one of the world's most popular Linux distributions, has been released: &quot;We are proud to announce the launch of 11.4 in the openSUSE tradition of delivering the latest technology while maintaining stability. Gentoo 11.0 released

Keyboard backlight support in patched gnome-power-manager

&nbsp;If anyone is interested I've finished integrating proper keyboard backlight support into gnome-power-manager (which in turn uses upower to actually control the keyboard backlight) which with any luck will be <a href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/724324" target="_blank">available in Natty out of the box</a>.

CRUX PPC 2.7 released

&nbsp;<a href="http://cruxppc.org/">CRUX PPC</a> 2.7 is now available. It works on Apple 32bit &quot;NewWorld&quot; G3/G4 and Apple 64bit G5, Genesi PegasosII and Efika, Acube Sam440ep, YDL Powerstation, IBM Intellistation POWER and IBM Power Systems servers.

No more Adobe flash updates for PPC based Macs

MintPPC also runs on G5

&nbsp;Since yesterday the people in the MintPPC forums know that MintPPC not only runs great on 32-bits G3 and G4 machines, but that it equally runs nicely on 64-bits G5 powered Macs. Bongo_x is the first user who got MintPPC 9 installed on a PowerMac G5. He told us that he was very surprised how the Debian system automatically recognized the two wireless printers in his house, which can be seen in the <a href="http://mintppc.org/files/Screenshot-8.png">following picture</a>.

GTK+3 released

&nbsp;The developers of the GIMP Toolkit, which was originally developed for GIMP but is now also used by GNOME, have <a rel="external" href="http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-devel-list/2011-February/msg00020.html" target="_blank">released</a> the third generation of their graphics library, commonly referred to as <a rel="external" href="http://www.gtk.org/" target="_blank">GTK+</a>.
