Xubuntu desktop icons disappear

The 8.10 version of Xubuntu ships with a broken Xfdesktop. This makes your icons disappear sometimes, often just after you right-click a particular icon.

If you run it from the console, it will often exit with a Segmentation Fault.

The fix is to either download rebuilt packages or rebuild them yourself.

Download rebuilt packages

1. Click here and download the packages, all to the same directory
2. In a console, in the download directory, do:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

If you get dependency errors, install the dependencies and try again:

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
