New clonezilla released

The <a rel="external" href="http://clonezilla.org/" target="_blank">Clonezilla</a> development team has published version 1.2.8-42 of its <a rel="external" href="http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live.php" target="_blank">Clonezilla Live</a> Linux distribution. Clonezilla Live 1.2.8-42 features the addition of the GRUB2 bootloader for EFI (<a rel="external" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface" target="_blank">Extensible Firmware Interface</a>), allowing it to boot from a USB device with a GPT partition on modern Intel-based Macs.
According to developer Steven Shiau, who also works on GParted partition editor, this latest stable release has been updated to the unstable branch of Debian (known as &quot;Sid&quot;) from 13 May and includes the 2.6.38-5 Linux kernel. Other changes include replacing the &quot;<a rel="external" href="http://etherboot.org/wiki/start" target="_blank">gPXE</a>&quot; open source network bootloader in the boot menu with &quot;<a rel="external" href="http://ipxe.org/" target="_blank">iPXE</a>&quot;, updating the Syslinux bootloader collection to version 4.04, and various bug fixes. The developers also note that <a rel="external" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Initrd" target="_blank">initrd</a> has been compressed using <a rel="external" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xz" target="_blank">xz</a> which has made the Clonezilla ISO/Zip file 3&nbsp;MB smaller.
Clonezilla is an open source clone system and is designed for hard disk partitioning and duplicating. It has a range of features which the developers say are similar to those of Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition and <a rel="external" href="http://www.partimage.org/Main_Page" target="_blank">Partimage</a>.
Details about the release, including a full list of changes, can be found in the <a rel="external" href="http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=27511809" target="_blank">official release announcement</a> and in the <a rel="external" href="http://www.clonezilla.org/downloads/stable/changelog.php" target="_blank">change log</a>. Clonezilla Live 1.2.8-42 is available to <a rel="external" href="http://www.clonezilla.org/downloads.php" target="_blank">download</a> as an ISO image file from the project's web site. Hosted on <a rel="external" href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/clonezilla/" target="_blank">SourceForge</a>, Clonezilla is released under the GPLv2.
