G5 iMac widescreen shift to the right

All distros that use the latest opensource 2D nvidia driver from Xorg (nv) may present a slight problem to G5 iMac users with 20-inch screens.

While you may be able to obtain 1680x1050 native resolution, the screen may show a shift to the right by about a half-inch which wraps back around to the left.

It is a problem with the latest nv driver coming from freedesktop.org which fixed a problem for some other flat-panel users, but unfortunately hurt us G5 iMac 20" owners.

This wasn't a problem in older releases like Ubuntu Dapper and Debian Etch, but surfaced with the new xorg in Ubuntu Gutsy and Debian Lenny - actually it affects ALL recent distros.

The fix is to remove the commit to the driver code that did this and recompile nv_dr.so

Or, just ignore it for now. Fortunately we have enough screen real-estate for it not to be a show-stopper. Annoying? Yes. Workable? Depends on how annoying it is. :)
